Software Engineer and Photographer
Hi! I’m Michael Chu, a 21-year-old software engineer based in the Bay Area, previously a Software Development Intern at FarmX.
I am currently studying Cognitive Science with a specialization in Machine Learning and Neural Computation at the University of California, San Diego. Last year I also picked up a minor in Computer Science. I previously studied Computer Engineering at UC Santa Cruz.
I’m passionate about building innovative solutions that leverage AI and machine learning to solve real-world problems. My interests lie in robotics, scalable backend development, and computer vision. I specialize in Python and C++, with hands-on experience in ROS2, PyTorch, and CUDA for high-performance applications.
Outside of tech, I’m also a street photographer and aspiring event photographer, capturing candid moments and dynamic scenes that tell compelling stories through the lens.
Here are a few technologies I've been working with recently:• Collaborated within a 2-person team to develop a curse-based CLI that reduced robot testing time by 30%
• Implemented a Python script execution CLI for saving output directories, streamlining field testing by 20%
• Developed a Linux background service to parse 100+ line PoE log files, increasing troubleshooting speed by 30%
• Contributed to the early-stage development of a ROS2 node that subscribes to a topic for real-time actions
• Developed an automated payroll app for 20+ employees, cutting errors by 95% and processing time by 40%
• Analyzed web analytics and keyword performance, building a database of 100+ optimized search terms
• Improved product listing visibility, leading to a 50% increase in click-throughs and conversions
• Created structured technical reports on manufacturing processes and operational efficiency improvements
